The Challenge
Despite the careful consideration given to make sure that the proposed development sat comfortably with the buildings and area around it together with the support of local civic bodies and Lambeth Council, the scheme met with heavy opposition from immediate neighbours. In our role of Project and Development Manager and with the support of the Client and Project Team we were able to steer the project through these issues and keep the programme and budget on track. The contentious nature of the scheme necessitated a very sensitive approach by us as Project Managers to the issues and concerns of neighbours, including liaising with the appointed Party Wall Surveyor working on the boundary wall restoration.
The Outcome
The new houses were completed within the original development budget and handed to the Client broadly in line with the original programme notwithstanding the challenges in the face of COVID lockdown which hit in month 4 of the construction phase. Upon completion the units have rapidly all let at above the original rental values, and are now generating income for the Foundation’s charitable work within Lambeth.
