Monier Road comprised the development of 124 homes and 21,500 ft² of business space on Fish Island, East London. Forming an important part of the area’s post-Olympic ambitions, the design brief was to define its evolving character between the existing communities of Hackney, Tower Hamlets and the emerging Queen Elizabeth Park.
The site originally occupied a number of warehouse buildings which were demolished prior to construction and replaced with well designed, highly sustainable low maintenance buildings and homes.
Broad pedestrian routes were plotted through the development to increase the permeability of the site and to extend the characteristic Hackney Wick street plan of yards and passages into the development.
We were involved with this project from initial feasibility stage, subsequently taking it through approval with the London Legacy Corporation planning committee. We also provided key input in relation to agreeing the affordable housing tenure mix. Once planning was achieved our Client sold the development on and it was built out by contractor/developer Hill Partnerships, working in a joint venture with Peabody.
