The Challenge
A particularly challenging aspect of the project was the construction of the new double height basement given the site’s close proximity to the Jubilee line, which runs underneath an adjacent property.
There were also numerous party wall issues for our party wall surveyor to overcome, which involved lengthy discussions with adjoining owners’ representatives.
We worked closely with the client, design team and main contractor to advise on the complex logistics and sequencing on this highly constricted site.
The Outcome
Completed in 2023, Mount Row’s striking façade features patinated bronze panels offset against dark red brick and bronze framed windows.
The gallery is fronted by an oversized pivoting glass door at street level, which allows views through to the sculpture garden and rear gallery pavilion behind whilst also enabling easy access for oversized and heavy artworks. This column free voluminous space has been tailored to suit the needs of a commercial gallery, with walls, floors and ceilings across the levels built to withstand large loads. A separate entrance to the residential space leads to the reception area and concierge desk.
Mount Row is the latest in a number of projects we have successfully completed with the Client, Glebe, over more than a decade of working together.
