Kensington Palace Gardens

Project Overview

Our team were engaged by a repeat client to undertake the refurbishment and restoration of a Richard Siefert-designed duplex apartment set on one of Kensington’s most exclusive roads. The client’s brief was to take the apartment, which over the years had been split into numerous “pokey” spaces, back to its original 1960s modernist aesthetic, re-establishing light, energy and flow.

The ambitious design made radical changes to the interior structure and layout. A portion of the original floor slab was removed to accommodate a new double-height entrance hall, and a feature staircase – with a recessed handrail carved from solid travertine – was added by excavating some of the original reinforced concrete. Finishes were all crafted to exceptionally high standards and include an articulated walnut slatted sliding wall which conceals the Boffi kitchen from the large dining area. Other notable features include a new custom-built walnut-and-brass library incorporating a galleried mezzanine platform, which has been set into precast concrete floor panels.

The works also included re-landscaping the garden, which was designed by Chelsea Gold Award winning Chris Moss. Architectural Digest magazine showcased the completed project in Autumn 2023.
