Jerwood Space

The Jerwood Foundation was established to fund and sponsor arts and educational projects. Jerwood Space was their first major capital initiative, providing reduced rate hire for young dance and theatre companies.

Our first project delivered a rooftop extension to the second floor, creating additional rehearsal space plus associated facilities. This project also saw the upgrade of existing rehearsal spaces, including the provision of comfort cooling. All of the works were undertaken whilst maintaining operational use of the building.

We are now working on a new scheme, which is designed to accommodate both the increasingly ambitious requirements of rehearsal space users as well as maximising revenue from the café, gallery and events space. A ground floor extension will relocate the current office and create space for a new coffee roaster for the café. The frontage will be enhanced to include a new entrance to the café from Union Street. Alterations to the first floor will add a new meeting room for hire, and a modest first-floor terrace will provide additional seating capacity. Minor works will further upgrade rehearsal space and create new/refurbished WCs. Works are due to complete in early 2024.
